RESCUECOM Rates the Reliability of Computer Manufacturers for 2015's Back to School Season
RESCUECOM Releases Back to School 2015 Q2 Computer Reliability Report
by cnbc | Thursday, 10 Sep 2015 | 8:30 AM ETSYRACUSE, N.Y., Sept. 10, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- If you are looking for a computer or a tablet for school, you need to know the reliability of the brands available. There is no better resource than the 2015 Q2 Computer Reliability Report from RESCUECOM, showing that the most reliable manufacturers continue improving while competition between less reliable brands shows little change of late.
Samsung and Apple top the list, as has been the case for some time. Dell has enjoyed quite an improvement this year from being one of the worst performers in prior years, while HP's reliability score continues to drop. Amazon is missing due to a drop in popularity of its tablets, while Microsoft ranks in the median due to its production of the Surface tablet. Ultimately, there has been relatively little change from the most recent report overall.
While IBM/Lenovo had been gaining ground on Apple and Samsung, its score did not increase as much as either of theirs, keeping it in third place. The middle rankings belong to Microsoft and Asus, a familiar spot for Asus and Microsoft's first inclusion in the report. Dell sits in the middle as well with the most significant improvement, its score rising a full letter grade since last quarter.
Rounding out the bottom of the rankings are Toshiba, Acer, and HP. Toshiba's score has dropped slightly, while Acer has seen the largest drop from the middle to being second to last. HP took last place most recently and, unfortunately, its grade has continued to drop.
This most interesting shift in the patterns detailed in recent reports is that the gaps between the top and bottom brands have widened. The most reliable manufacturers continue to improve, the middle remains steady, and the least reliable brands continue to falter. If trends do not change, Apple, Samsung, and IBM/Lenovo will continue holding the top rankings, while HP must initiate drastic improvement in its reliability. In the constantly and quickly fluctuating tech industry, the right moves can lead to fast and drastic changes in increase consumer confidence.
RESCUECOM calculates reliability scores by contrasting a manufacturer's market share of computers and tablets to the number of tech support calls for those devices. The resulting list is an excellent technology resource for parents of children beginning a new school year when deciding what tablet or laptop to purchase for educational purposes.
