RESCUECOM Releases 2015 Q1 Computer Repair Report!

SYRACUSE, N.Y.
May 8, 2015

RESCUECOM has tallied the data from all of the computer repair calls it received this quarter to form the 2015 Q1 Computer Repair Report, showing certain issues at the center of the most common problems with PCs, Macs, and tablets.

The Computer Repair rankings are as follows:

RankProblemPercentage
1Windows App Issues34.6%
2Viruses and Malware18.6%
3Sluggish Computer14.6%
4Internet Connection Problems6.4%
5Email Trouble5.4%
6Windows Operating System5.2%
7Hardware Installation4.7%
8Printer Connection3.2%
9(Tie) Boot up Problems2.4%
9(Tie) Data Recovery2.4%
10Mac App Issues 0.8%

Software problems have claimed the largest portion of computer support calls to RESCUECOM this quarter, with a massive increase in the number of Windows app issues since 2014. In particular, Windows app issues account for over a third of all of the tech support calls RESCUECOM received—more than the other two of the top three problems put together!

The other major contributors to the majority of the top problems this quarter are viruses and malware. These Internet security threats can wreak havoc on computers and tablets, from corrupting data or locking a user’s tech device to causing Internet connection problems or creating a slowdown. Viruses and malware have maintained one of the top spots on the computer repair rankings consistently, with 18.6% for this quarter.

Hardware problems remain a constant headache for any computer user, but these are less common than other issues. Despite the low frequency compared to other problems, they can be some of the hardest tech troubles to fix. Notably, calls for hardware installation, boot up problems, and data recovery have all dropped since 2014.

Fortunately, many of the common problems are avoidable, or at least manageable with the right precautions. To learn what causes these problems and what steps users can take to protect their devices, be sure to read the full 2015 Q1 Computer Repair Report!
