Evan Spiegel is the CEO of Real-Time Photo Messaging Company Snapchat
While there are a lot of funny pictures or moments that we like to share with our friends on social media, we don’t always want those pictures permanently archived on the Internet. Evan Spiegel, the CEO of Snapchat, has created a mobile application that tries to resolve this conflict between the desire for long-term privacy and the need for social connection. Snapchat is an app that lets users send pictures they take back and forth in real-time in a conversational manner, but also deletes those pictures forever after specified period of time. Spiegel’s vision has resonated with consumers all over the world. This is clear from the fact that Snapchat is consistently a top ten app in Apple’s App Store for the iPhone. Spiegel has worked to create a space where people can share their day-to-day moments without the fear of long-term embarrassment. Many users concerned with online privacy and Internet security have clearly been waiting for a service to provide that opportunity. Spiegel is definitely a cool person in the tech industry who has capitalized on a simple but effective idea.
At heart, Spiegel is a designer and his background shows that. He attended the Art Center College of Design and studied graphic design and advertising before attending Stanford University and receiving a B.S. in product design in 2012. In January of that same year, Spiegel released Snapchat for iOS along with co-founder and fellow Stanford student Bobby Murphy. The two of them created the app during 2011 while they were still in school. Like many successful entrepreneurs, Spiegel didn’t wait until graduation to capitalize on his idea. Spiegel also previously worked at Intuit while he was in school and gained experience as a software developer that was useful in creating Snapchat. Spiegel’s willingness to seize opportunity and work on his own project while also managing schoolwork contributed greatly to his success.
Snapchat claims that there have been over fifteen billion unique images shared on the app since it went live. The app remains one of the most popular on the iPhone as well. For those who have the app but struggle using it, contact iPhone support for help.
