People have used technology and the web to change how humans interact with many different forms of media. EBooks are changing how people read prose, video streaming services have changed how people watch television, and blogging has changed how people consume news. Now, a cool person in technology wants to change the way musicians read sheet music as well. Gregory Dell’Era founded his startup Weezic to give musicians access to interactive sheet music that actually helps people practice rather than simply giving them a metaphorical road map. Read more »

Before the Internet, people’s only real option for finding a respectable quality babysitter or nanny was most often simple word-of-mouth. Times have certainly changed, as babysitters and nannies often advertise their services on sites like Craigslist. However, the results from these general posting sites come out mixed at best. Families are just as likely to get an awful sitter as a great one. However, cool product UrbanSitter may be able to change the situation for families that seek babysitting help on the Internet. Shopping for fashion is a very personal experience for many people. People often take joy in discovering a specific style of clothing that suits them in particular or in finding just the right accessory to complement their wardrobe and make them unique. Fashion brand stores often run counter to these desires by trying to sell fashions that define their brand rather than their individual customers. Companies like J. Crew, Burberry, and Gucci would prefer that customers wear only their styles to show off their brand. However, that’s not what most consumers want. They want to be able to express themselves through their personal style. Read more »

The majority of travel sites essentially handle their business in similar ways. They focus on specific partners, book through agents that work for the site rather than the transit provider themselves, focus on flights over other forms of travel, and charge convenience fees for booking through the site in the first place. Cool product FromAtoB is a travel site that doesn’t follow these conventions and attempts to give customers a different, more pure experience. Rather than have customers book their transit through the site itself as a surrogate, FromAtoB acts more like a search engine. It connects users directly to travel providers themselves. This difference means that customers avoid unnecessary middlemen, and even potentially avoid unwanted “convenience fees” or extra charges incurred by booking through a surrogate. FromAtoB lets users search through hundreds or providers and then links customers to those sites so they can purchase their transit and accommodations directly from the source. FromAtoB wants to de-complicate the process of using a travel website, and this feature is one of its main tools in doing so. Read more »

People sharing and renting each other’s property is a growing trend in the consumer web space. Companies like Airbnb have people share their apartments and extra rooms so others don’t have to use hotel services. Cool product Qraft wants to take this trend and apply it to recreational vehicles and items that its website refers to as “adventure” related. This includes alternative transportation like boats, planes, RVs, and motorbikes. Qraft also has a section for users to rent out hiking, climbing, and camping gear for those who prefer to have their adventures on foot. What makes a Qraft potentially very profitable for its users is that these items and vehicles often go unused for months at a time. That means that people can rent their items out often and make a profit on their recreational toys. These items are often very costly and see very limited use, but with Qraft, a user could theoretically get much more out of their investment in an item like a boat or RV. Recreational vehicle owners who want to rent their items out but struggle with the web will want online PC support to help them. Read more »
