Amos Pizzey Wants to Help Artists Find Work with Digital Platform Talenthouse

The Internet has become haven for independent and amateur artists, whether those artists work in music, animation or performance.  While social media and the web have made it possible to independently promote oneself and gain traction with a fan base, it is not an easy thing to accomplish.  For people who treat their artwork as a profession and not as a hobby, it is not always viable to simply promote work on social media sites and hope for the best.  Amos Pizzey wants to give professional artists a better tool on the web that can help them not just gain attention, but find paying work.  This cool person in technology founded his company Talenthouse in order to give artists the equivalent of a professional networking site like LinkedIn.  Read more »

Axel Hansen Created Newsle for Users to Follow People in the News

Everyone knows that annoying feeling that comes with hearing about news weeks after they should have been aware of it.  Sometimes it’s about a friend, a boss, a business associate, or a celebrity they follow intensely, but it’s almost always something they wish they’d known sooner.  Cool person in technology Axel Hansen created Newsle specifically for people in this situation.  Newsle automatically finds news from hundreds of sources and matches it against each of its users’ specific follow lists to present them with news that only has to do with the people they care about the most. Hansen’s program starts out with users connecting to their Facebook or LinkedIn account and importing their friends or business colleagues onto their follow list first.  This process automatically sets up users so they see news about anyone in their social or business networks the minute it appears on the web. Newsle scours the Internet and finds out when a news outlet reports something about anyone in a user’s network.  Anyone who uses Newsle but can’t seem to connect it to any social networks properly can get assistance through phone tech support. Yinon Weiss Created RallyPoint to Be LinkedIn for the Military

LinkedIn has proven to be an essential networking tool for many in the business world.  The ability to stay connected with so many business contacts has helped many forward their career and their companies.  However, LinkedIn’s corporate focus on traditional business career paths doesn’t work for everyone.  Cool person in tech Yinon Weiss is a military veteran who found that LinkedIn wasn’t the most appropriate tool for helping military personnel find work in the real world.  Military careers and experience didn’t translate easily to LinkedIn’s design or outline.  This is why Weiss founded RallyPoint, a professional social network designed specifically for both active military personnel and veterans.  RallyPoint helps its members maintain an online presence, network within the military, and apply for jobs.  RallyPoint lets its members apply to jobs in the private sector, but also has options for active personnel to apply for PCS opportunities.  Weiss wants RallyPoint to make networking and job hunting whether someone is still active in the armed forces or not.  Members of the military who want to try RallyPoint but have little experience with social networking might be able to get help from a computer support service. Peer Lets You Network Professionally via Video Chat with Your iPhone

Using the Internet to network and increase your web of contacts in the professional world is hardly a new concept.  LinkedIn has been doing this for ages.  However, simply clicking a link to add another “connection” on your profile can be impersonal and even undermine the chance to make a true connection through networking in the first place.  This is why cool product Peer tries to add a more personal touch to online professional networking by incorporating video messaging and chats into the process.  Peer lets you make professional connections, leave video introductions and schedule video chats on your phone so you can make a real connection while networking rather than just a name on the screen.  The team at Peer believes this process can help facilitate stronger relationships through networking that will be more helpful than the typical ones made through social networking.  Currently, Peer uses LinkedIn to help users find others to connect with over their service.  If you do not have a LinkedIn profile and don’t know how to create one, you will need computer tech support to help you.
