Sometimes, it takes time for people to realize just how cool an idea or device actually is. When Dr. Michael Schuette developed the Neural Impulse Actuator for OCZ Technologies, he thought he was taking the first step toward thought-activated and thought-controlled computers. Schuette was introducing consumers to the first logical step toward a new way of controlling computers, but the commercial release of the OCZ NIA focused on gaming. Unfortunately for Schuette, OCZ and those who wanted to see radical technological improvement, OCZ Technologies released the NIA right when the video game market took an especially drastic hit due to the worldwide economic downturn. Recently, though, consumers are discovering and rediscovering the incredibly cool OCZ NIA. Read more »

Most computer peripherals have remained largely unchanged over the last ten years. Ergonomic keyboards, for example, remain the most significant change in keyboards that has even partially stuck with consumers. The computer mouse, since the optical mouse became the standard for the device, has not made any significant changes that consumers have adopted . . . until now. With the millionth 3-D mouse shipped from 3Dconnexion, the 3-D mouse appears to be a radical redesign that consumers are actually interested in. The latest model is the SpaceMouse Pro. Read more »

Anyone who has enjoyed the recent advances in high definition digital video technology knows there are two issues that frequently stymie video enthusiasts: battery life and video memory card storage capacity. Batteries running out of power are a real downer, but when your power supply is uninterrupted, you may easily make long, memory-intensive videos that quickly fill up your video memory cards. To avoid that, you need a video memory card that has great capacity and is durable. Easily meeting those criteria is the 64 GB CombatFlash685 CF memory card. Read more »

It is easy to suspect that the more popular digital music becomes, the more people will load up their MP3 players and discover that they have created pretty massive collections of music. As people come to the realization that they have spent a lot of money on digital music, one suspects they will want to continue going through their musical library more and more. When you do that, you are equally likely to enjoy all that you have accumulated and eliminate mediocre tracks from your collection before refilling your MP3 player. Given that there are only so many hours in the day to enjoy these massive music libraries, accessories that allow you to play music you know and love where traditionally you have had a radio are becoming more and more popular. For those who have Apple iPods, the XtremeMac Luna Voyager II Alarm Clock Radio is becoming an increasingly popular device for exactly that reason! Read more »

Of all the social networks on the Internet, Twitter seems to be the one that is both the most trendy and least useful. Limited to 140 characters, Twitter is basically an extended message board for your life where you keep anyone who might be interested up to date on where you are, what you are doing and/or what thoughts are going through your mind. While Twitter might not be a bastion of deep thoughts or profound ideas, Twitter actually embodies perfectly the “social” part of social networking. More than any other social network, Twitter acts as a barometer of just what is hip, trendy, and popular in the world at any given moment. Twitter is the snapshot of both popular culture and current events. But, seeing the big picture Twitter is trying to reveal can be hard. For that, you need TagWalk. Read more »

No musical artist produces a track with the idea that the ideal format upon which it will be presented is a digital music player. Digital music files often compress sounds, limiting the range and even editing out the richer tones of a composer’s work. Musical artists today produce music to be heard over speakers at concerts and stereo systems and outside where the music can resonate and breathe. While you cannot easily improve the quality of digital music files, you can easily upgrade from earbuds. The Yamaha PDX-11 is one such speaker system that gets you closer to the sound the artists intended! Read more »

The fax, the facsimile which was essentially a scan sent from one machine to another over the phone line, is a dying technology. Scanners and e-mail provide essentially the same services and they are easy-to-use technologies used in every industrialized nation on Earth. However, e-mails do not have the legal authority of faxes. As a result, Fax Over Internet Protocol technology has emerged as a new industry. Choosing the right FOIP provider can be a challenge. Three of the best are: Read more »

With so many forms of technology becoming interconnected, it is sometimes hard to keep up with all of the advances that hit the marketplace. Shortly after you buy a Blu-Ray player, for example, a new upgrade may easily appear that would allow you to do more with your simple Blu-Ray disc player. Fortunately, even as technology changes, there are often adapters that allow you to upgrade the device you spent good money on to work with the latest technology. The IOGEAR Universal Wi-Fi N Adapter – Ethernet to Wi-Fi N is one such adapter.
The IOGEAR Universal Wi-Fi N Adapter – Ethernet to Wi-Fi N adapter (Product number GWU627 in the IOGEAR catalog) is an adapter which connects to any of your Ethernet-ready devices. If you are not hip to all of the latest trends in the tech sector, there are some exciting new technologies and services of which you should be aware. While technology is changing rapidly, there are some new trends that appear to be here to stay and that you may well want to utilize. One of the big emerging markets is Cloud storage.
