The Tile App, a product developed by Reveal Labs, is a thin device with a double-sided adhesive to stick to virtually any surface. Place the tile on your laptop, wallet, keys, guitar, bike, or whatever else you have the tendency to misplace. In fact, Reveal Labs states that the app can handle up to 10 tiles on one account. The Tile currently works with iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPad Mini, iPad 3rd and 4th generation, and iPod Touch 5th generation.
The Tile works by sounding an alert if triggered, so if you can hear it, you can find it. The app has a range of 50-150 feet, depending on the environment, but with the ability to send an update to your phone from any other Tile user’s phone within 50-150 feet of your Tile, the range becomes almost limitless, according to developers. The app sends your phone a map view displaying a pin for the location of your Tile.
The Tile App also remembers where it last saw your Tile, enabling users to find their tile right where they left it!
Reveal Labs claims there are no batteries to charge or replace with the Tile. After one year of activation, the company reminds you it’s time to order a new Tile. The latest version of the Tile complete with its own new battery then arrives, ready for another year of use. Other benefits of this innovative design are that the Tile is waterproof and thinner than it would need to be otherwise.
