Using NxtNutrio is relatively simple.  The application uses the camera in your smartphone to scan the UPC of a food item.  The app then crosschecks that UPC with its database of food items and shows you a detailed list of the food’s ingredients.  It tells you what ingredients may be unhealthy, what ingredients have genetic modifications, and even what ingredients are common allergens—just in case.  You can then make educated decisions based on the details that NxtNutrio provides about your food.  If you have trouble installing the application or using it to scan barcodes, talk to a smartphone PC support specialist for help.

NxtNutrio currently has information about ingredients for over 210,000 food items.  The NxtNutrio team is adding more information and food items all the time based on the extensive research they perform.  Users can also submit data to the app’s database.  If you scan a UPC and there is no information on it, the app asks you if you know anything about the item and if you would like to input for other users.  Between the work of NxtNutrio’s researchers and the help of its user base, grocery shoppers have access to information on thousands of potentially harmful foods.
