Use Your Smartphone To Be A Reporter With The Stringfly App!

Have you ever seen something legitimately newsworthy and wished there was a reporter around to get the facts correct? Do you wish there was a way you could give feedback to companies easily?  Do you love sharing great deals you find with your friends as soon as you encounter them?  Now, there is a smartphone app that meets all of those needs!  That app is Stringfly.

Stringfly, from Engagement Media Technology (EMT) will allow users to be onsite reporters, intelligence gatherers, and mystery shoppers. The app is available on both the Android market and Apple’s app store. Stringfly is the broader cousin to EMT’s app OneNews that has been available since 2009. OneNews only allowed users to report news, but the Stringfly application expands the functionality of the app.  While the whole purpose of Stringfly is to help keep others up to date with current events, the audience has shifted from exclusively newsgathering agencies to include friends and family.  In this way, Stringfly users are not trying to bombard legitimate news agencies with images of the great sale deal they just discovered; instead, Stringfly users would just send those lower-priority “news” items to selected friends and family.

Users of the app accept assignments to take a photo, capture video, or send text about a news event, product, or advertisement in exchange for rewards. The rewards range from coupons to money to incentive provided directly from a sponsoring company. Most assignments are based on simple geographic location.  For those assignments, you compete against other Stringfly users to get the best picture as fast as possible.  With the overhaul from OneNews, Stringfly has some assignments that offered to users based on their demographic information.

Users can send photos, video, or text information about non-assignment events as well, if they are newsworthy. EMT CEO Vincent Butta cites the 2005 London bombings as a prime example of how the app’s users could have shared the images they obtained with the world. Many of the first people near the bomb sites had smartphones and they took pictures with their phone’s cameras. Users could now send those kinds of pictures via the Stringfly app directly to news reporting services so that reporters would both be aware of the situation and could provide instantaneous imagery with their first report.

Using the app is completely voluntary, though aspiring reporters and those into consumer activism have already begun establishing reputations in the Stringfly community.  Even the most casual users can receive rewards or even money for simply taking test pictures and videos for Stringfly.

With Stringfly, companies get feedback or news and users are rewarded without having to do much. It is a good arrangement that works well for both parties. Be a citizen reporter, mystery shopper, and intelligence gatherer all in one and download the Stringfly app to your smartphone!
