TomTom Delivers Distinctive Voices For GPS Devices!
For anyone who grew up watching Knight Rider, the idea of a talking car is nothing new. In recent years, of course, talking cars have become more of a reality than a fantasy, thanks to GPS systems that deliver turn by turn directions out loud. But, for those who still pine for a Knight Rider-style talking car, the car with an artificial personality is still several years away. TomTom, though, now has the next best thing with voice upgrades for your GPS system!
TomTom, one of the leading manufacturers of Global Positioning Systems for consumer use, pioneered many significant GPS systems, like the GO and VIA lines. TomTom also makes an application for iPhones that allows those who have an iPhone to benefit from TomTom’s incredible mapping software. Now, TomTom provides voice upgrades – much like ringtones for mobile phones – for their GPS systems that allow you to make your GPS more distinctive and personal. While there is a KITT voice (from Knight Rider), TomTom has come up with some truly intriguing voice packages. The best of the bunch are:
Star Wars – Now, you can make your GPS system sound like Yoda, Han Solo, C-3PO or Darth Vader! The rich voices of the Star Wars Trilogy are a lot of fun, but the best of the four is, surprisingly, C-3PO. The Yoda voice is incredibly accurate, but because Yoda’s speech pattern is so distinctive and involves putting words out of order, the Yoda TomTom voice does not quite live up. Conversely, the dulcet tones of Anthony Daniels (C-3PO) lend some real class to a GPS device. Moreover, because C-3PO is a bit of a know-it-all, it fits his character to tell you how and where to drive!
The Simpsons – Freshly off the line are Marge Simpson and Mr. Burns TomTom voice programs. While Homer Simpson has been on the market for a while, Marge is a great choice and Mr. Burns is fun for fans of The Simpsons. Marge’s shrill voice can actually be very useful while driving. Her persistent nagging is (hopefully) unlike any other voice in your car, so she does what a good talking GPS ought to do; she cuts through all other noise to deliver clear, concise directions.
Bert and Ernie from Sesame Street – The Bert and Ernie TomTom voice pack is just a lot of fun. The back and forth between the two characters speaking through your GPS has real entertainment value. The real benefit of it, however, is how it entertains young children. Children who are old enough to watch Sesame Street are easily entertained by hearing the voices of their beloved characters and the Bert and Ernie voice pack can be a real lifesaver. While you get good directions, the voices of Bert and Ernie can help put your children to sleep!
