Sean Olive Makes Harmon Kardon Products Sound Exceptional!
With all of the advances in digital music technology, it is unsurprising that consumers today are constantly looking for better audio equipment. While an inexpensive mp3 player may play audio files with equal precision as the most expensive players, serious audiophiles know that the quality of the speakers, headphones or earbuds make all the difference with digital music. Harmon Kardon is an industry leader in the manufacture of quality audio equipment. Harmon Kardon relies upon the talents of Sean Olive.
Sean Olive is the Director of Acoustic Research at Harman Kardon International. Dr. Olive is a scientist and his expertise in the way sound moves and reacts put him in high demand among audio equipment manufacturers. Harman Kardon has employed Dr. Sean Olive since 1993 and their use of his audio expertise has helped them capitalize on the rise of digital music. While Olive is not concerned with the quality of mp3 and other audio files, he has been committed to making digital audio files sound as good as they possibly can. Sean Olive’s background makes him an ideal Director of Acoustic Research.
Starting at the University of Toronto, Sean Olive pursued his education in all aspects of sound. At Toronto, Olive earned his Bachelor’s in Music before moving on to the McGill University in Montreal. In Montreal, Sean Olive worked on both his Master’s and Doctorate work. After earning his degree and doctorate in Sound Recording, Dr. Sean Olive worked with the prestigious Dr. Floyd Toole at the National Research Council of Canada. Together, Olive and Toole researched the differences between perceived and measured audio levels of all sorts of audio equipment and acoustic facilities.
The seven years Dr. Olive spent working for the National Research Council of Canada made him an ideal hire for Harman Kardon. In 1993 when Harman Kardon hired him, Sean Olive began directing the research and development efforts of the company. Tasked with creating technologies that more precisely render and transmit sound in different spaces, Olive began tailoring products based upon the space in which they would be used. So, for example, Oliver oriented the speakers on the new portable iPod docking stations to diffuse outward and create a more potent sound source. That type of design is in contrast with some of the speaker arrays used indoors that he produced to focus on where an audience is located and reduce vibrations from the equipment.
With his expertise and experience, Dr. Sean Olive continues to improve Harman Kardon’s audio equipment, making him indispensible!
