Proving Working Mothers Can Rise Up The Corporate Ladder, Blair Christie Ascends At Cisco!
Finding women at or near top positions in the tech sector is at least as hard as it is to find them in prime management positions in the financial sector and other big businesses. However, possibly because of the rate at which technology changes, women in technology sector professional jobs are often derailed from their career path by using maternity leave. To acknowledge how hard working mothers work to balance both their family life and career, Working Mother magazine names one woman in business as their Working Mother Of The Year each year. In 2009, that honor went to a woman in the tech sector, Blair Christie of Cisco Systems! Blair Christie is so much more than just a working mother; she is the powerhouse who runs much of Cisco Systems’ global communications and negotiations efforts.
Blair Christie is a Senior Vice President at Cisco Systems who serves as the Chief Marketing and Communications Officer for Worldwide Government Affairs. Promoted to Chief Marketing Officer, Worldwide Government Affairs, in 2011, Christie is now responsible for increasing brand recognition of Cisco products and services around the world. Over the past year, Blair Christie has worked hard to raise the profile and impression of Cisco in every market in which the technology company has a presence.
The ascent of Blair Christie to Senior Vice President might seem like more of an inevitability than a surprise for the talented executive. Blair Christie graduated from Drexel University with a B.S. in Marketing and Business Administration. She remained at Drexel for her M.B.A. before she leapt into the business world. The tech sector instantly attracted Christie’s interest and her pre-Cisco career was spent working for such companies as PECO Energy, Aqua America and InterDigital. While the companies she worked for were largely technical, Blair Christie was preoccupied with the business end of the industry, serving as an executive in government affairs, public and investor relations and corporate giving departments.
By 2009, Blair Christie was Cisco System’s youngest female Senior Vice President as Cisco hired her as the head of Corporate Communications. At that time, Christie’s children were six and three and the way Christie continued to raise the profile of Cisco Systems while also working her schedule around her children’s education and social activities brought her to the attention of Working Mother Magazine! When Working Mother named Blair Christie Working Mother Of The Year, the reputation and corporate standing Cisco Systems had was improved in countries with more liberal parenting and leave policies than the United States; by being a good mother, Christie found additional success at her job.
Now at the head of the marketing effort for Cisco’s Government Affairs division, Blair Christie continues to find joy as a parent and success as a prominent executive in the tech sector!
