Moving From Engineering To Business, An Le Is Poised To Help Yammer Grow!
In the ever-more-complicated online world, new social networks seem to pop up (or close down) almost every month. As you surf the web, you might be astonished to discover there have been entire social networks that you never heard of before. Some of the photo sharing and intimate social networks actually only make headlines when they shut down! But one social network you may not have heard of that is not closing down anytime soon is Yammer. And while you may not have heard of Yammer, that is not the fault of An Le!
An Le is the Vice President of Business Development for Yammer. Yammer is a company that builds social networks for private companies, almost like a social network for a business’s intranet. Yammer serves companies like Ford, LG, and Pitney Bowes and developing the network to more companies is the responsibility of An Le. As Vice President of Business Development, An Le helps businesses understand how vital an internal social network can be to increasing productivity, teamwork and corporate efficiency.
The role of Vice President of Business Development for Yammer is one that An Le is well-suited for, though it would not have seemed so at the beginning of her career. An Le attended Stanford University where she graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Electrical Engineering. With that degree, she went to work for Intel in 2001, but she found herself employed as a Business Development Manager instead of something that used her Electrical Engineering degree. Le spent four years building Intel’s presence at various Fortune 500 companies across the American Midwest. Her many successes caused her to rethink the direction of her life and career. So, in 2005, An Le went off to Harvard Business School.
In 2007, An Le graduated from Harvard Business School with her MBA. She did not have to leave Boston, as the Boston Consulting Group promptly hired her. There, An Le used her IT background and business experience to turn around at least one failing business. While she did not see her entire three year plan through – Mobile Money Ventures made her an offer she could not refuse – the plans she developed and helped to execute helped bring in over one hundred fifty million dollars to a business that had been unprofitable! After eleven months as the Director of Business Development for Mobile Money Ventures, An Le made a lateral move to New Relic where she stayed for almost two years.
Still relatively new at Yammer, An Le is already shaking the company up and helping to increase the company’s presence in the social networking marketplace. Given her successes before, with An Le as Vice President of Business Development, you will probably be hearing a lot more about Yammer in upcoming months!
