Keeping The Tech Sector Staffed, Raquel Atkinson Is Very Cool!
Despite the current recession, the tech sector continues to have a strong need for professionals. Start-ups, especially, need highly-skilled, technical minded employees in order to translate the Founders’ vision into an actual product. However, the process of hiring good people can be a time consuming one and it falls outside the skill set of many people who are focused on hardware, software, coding, and other non-people-related tasks. As a result, one of the smartest early hires in a start-up can be to hire a brilliant recruiter. Raquel Atkinson is one such recruiter in the tech sector.
Raquel Atkinson is currently the In-House Start-Up Recruiter for BlueKai. As BlueKai staffs up, Atkinson is responsible for finding people who not only are technically inclined, but who would make a good fit for the corporate culture of the emerging Internet company. That level of ability to judge both people and the company – both for what it is now and what the Founders want it to become – is a skill Raquel Atkinson has honed over years of working in the human resources branch of the tech sector.
While studying at San Jose University, Raquel Atkinson worked as a researcher for the small marketing firm Catapult Target Profiling. There, she gained a firm understanding of the real world processes of the human resources industry. When she graduated from San Jose University with her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Marketing, she went right to work for Volt. At Volt, she put her recruiting skills to the test and in her seven months with the firm, she found staff for Netflix, Verisign, AMD, and Apple, as well as many other corporate clients.
Early in 2006, Raquel Atkinson’s work with Volt brought her to the attention of Intel, when the company was staffing up sites in California, Oregon, Washington, and Arizona. Atkinson was contracted for three months to find personnel for those locations and she performed so admirably that when her contract with Intel ended, she was immediately signed to Chiefpeople as a technical recruiter. With Chiefpeople, Raquel Atkinson helped staff Gaia Online, MetroFi and other up and coming tech companies. After a brief stint with Pacific Biosciences, Raquel Atkinson joined Tapulous as their Staffing Lead/Sourcer.
As Tapulous, Raquel Atkinson found a level of stability that many recruiters for a small gaming company do not enjoy. For over a year and a half, Atkinson worked to grow the start-up social gaming company by pursuing programmers through university recruiting and Internet recruiting. Since February 2010 when she successfully defined the positions Tapulous needed and successfully staffed them. Raquel Atkinson has moved on to staff for 2Wire, Ooyala, and DISQUS!
Now at BlueKai, Raquel Atkinson’s own efficiency and experience is likely to see the company well-staffed for growth before she puts herself out of a job!
