Keeping LinkedIn On The Right Side Of The Law, Erika Rottenberg Is An Effective General Counsel!

Erika Rottenberg’s official title is Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary for LinkedIn. Her path to the law was an interesting one; as recently as 1980, all Rottenberg truly wanted was to be a Special Education teacher! While completing her B.S. in Education from SUNY Geneseo, Erika Rottenberg attended a conference at which the Anchorage School District was interviewing. The Anchorage School District hired her for their Special Ed program. While working for the Anchorage School District, Rottenberg worked for the teacher’s union and in fighting for a fair contract for the twenty-four hundred teachers the union represented, Rottenberg discovered both a passion and an aptitude for the law.
Returning to school, this time at the University of California at Berkeley’s School of Law, Erika Rottenberg redirected her studies toward corporate law. In 1992, Rottenberg earned her J.D. and went to work at the prestigious Cooley Godward firm. Her ascent up the corporate ladder was very quick and it did not take long before Creative Labs hired Rottenberg as a Senior Vice President of Strategic Development and General Counsel. In 2004, Erika Rottenberg went to work for SumTotal Systems before making the lateral move to LinkedIn in 2008.
At LinkedIn, Rottenberg excels at all aspects of corporate law. As privacy concerns rise all around the Internet, Rottenberg safeguards LinkedIn and keeps the company compliant with existing laws. Ensuring that LinkedIn remains compliant with all the latest Internet privacy laws is only one aspect of her job as Vice President, General Counsel.
