Keeping Imation Staffed, Patricia Hamm Is A Cool Vice President!
When your company is a multinational operation with many different divisions, the human resources department faces several challenges not faced by smaller businesses. In the tech sector, many companies have corporate structures that are specialized to each continent or part of the world. While having mirrored operations throughout the world may allow the company to specialize to capitalize on the abilities of the facilities in each area, it can create a real human resources nightmare. To keep a company like that growing, you need a human resources specialist who can hire the executives needed to manage all of the disparate operations of the corporation. For Imation, that person is Patricia Hamm.
Patricia Hamm is the Vice President for Global Human Resources at Imation. Having joined Imation in July of 2010, hiring Hamm was part of Imation’s desire to better utilize the company’s human capital. Charged with reorganizing executive positions and staffing them with the best possible candidates, from within the company and with applicants from throughout the tech sector, Patricia Hamm is helping Imation prepare for aggressive growth and stronger promotion. What might seem like a daunting task for some, placing individuals in the position that will allow them to succeed and benefit the company as well is a task with which Patricia Hamm is intimately familiar.
A good Human Resources Director comes from getting the best training possible, in addition to having a friendly disposition and the ability to see potential in applicants. Patricia Hamm began her formal training for her human resources positions at the College of Saint Benedict. There, Hamm earned her B.A. in Sociology. From the College of Saint Benedict, Patricia Hamm went on to the University of Minnesota for her Master’s work. Armed with her Master’s in Social Work, Hamm began her professional career as the Director of Career Development at Gustavus Adolphus College, where she worked for over four years.
Patricia Hamm left academia in August of 1984 when she went to work for First Bank System. First Bank System evolved into U.S. Bancorp and Hamm ascended to her first executive role: Vice President of Branch Communications and Training. While she enjoyed the teaching opportunities that came with training, Hamm found she enjoyed working with people on a more one on one basis. After ten years with U.S. Bancorp, Patricia Hamm went to work for Nellcor Puritan Bennett as the Director of Human Resources.
Once she had her first executive Human Resources position, Patricia Hamm never looked back! She went from Nellcor Puritan Bennett to Net Perceptions, then Fingerhut as Vice President of Human Resources at both companies. She served almost concurrently for seven years as the Executive Vice President of Human Resources for both Polaroid Corporation and Petters GroupWorldwide. It was at Petters, with over thirty years of experience in the human resource field that Imation found Patricia Hamm and wooed her to make her an essential part of their corporate growth plan.
With so much experience at successfully staffing big companies, Imation can realistically expect their plans to succeed with Patricia Hamm as their Vice President of Global Human Resources!
