Sometimes, it is unclear what a business did before a certain point in its corporate history, even by researching the company.  Sometimes, a company exists for a time before it hires an individual who turns out to have a great impact on the company; that is the type of hire that puts a company on the map! Joyce Fleck had exactly that level of impact on the Navarre Corporation.

Joyce Fleck is now the President of Navarre Distribution, which is one of two subsidiaries of the Navarre Corporation.  Fleck was promoted to President of Navarre Distribution in 2008 after serving the Navarre Corporation for almost a decade.  Prior to her promotion, Fleck made a significant contribution to the Navarre Corporation by convincing the executives to purchase Encore Software, which remains the other half of the Navarre Corporation.

When Encore Software went bankrupt, Fleck had the experience in the software distribution industry to evaluate the company.  She believed that the problem with the software publisher was not that the company produced a bad product, but rather that it did not effectively market and distribute their software.  Joyce Fleck encouraged the executives at the Navarre Corporation to acquire the flailing software company out of bankruptcy court.  The executives took Fleck’s advice and Fleck set to justifying the company’s faith in her.

Almost immediately, the Navarre Corporation reorganized Encore Software.  Soon, it would be publishing more educational software titles, like Adventure Workshop, which the pressure was on Fleck to make popular and profitable.  While the publishing arm of the Navarre Corporation was coming up with innovative new software titles – both games and educational – Joyce Fleck was working tirelessly on the distribution end of the company.  At Navarre Distribution, she was serving as the Vice President of Marketing and her tenacity with rebranding Encore Software put the entire company’s growth strategy on her shoulders.

Fortunately for both Joyce Fleck and the Navarre Corporation, Fleck’s talent paid off.  Fleck built effective hype for Encore’s new products. She strengthened the relationships with the retailers so the retailers effectively promoted the titles upon their release.  The result was that Navarre’s new software titles were a resounding commercial and popular success in the marketplace and the company saw strong growth.  Joyce Fleck received a promotion to Vice President of Sales and Marketing and now Fleck runs Navarre Distribution.

Joyce Fleck is a great example of a woman with vision in the right place at the right time with a good idea of how to take a poorly-marketed product and make it successful.  Leading Navarre Distribution, Fleck will no doubt continue to aid the company’s growth with her keen analytical skills!
