If You Had To Staff Up Your Alternative Energy Company, You Would Want Jane Marvin!
There is no doubt about it; alternative energy is a hot industry right now. Between the environmental, economic, and national security arguments, dependence upon fossil fuels is hardly a viable long-term strategy for any nation on Earth. So, innovative companies have been formed to develop the energy sources that might replace oil. One company, Solazyme, has found real success in manufacturing fuel oil from plant sugars. As you may imagine, such a development has the potential for explosive growth and Solazyme has been experiencing incredible growth as a result of their new process. That growth is exactly why the company needs Jane Marvin.
Jane Marvin is the Senior Vice President of Human Resources for Solazyme. In that role, Marvin has been responsible for hiring individuals and teams that will allow Solazyme to keep up with the upswing in sales and manufacturing that the alternative energy company is experiencing. Since March, Jane Marvin has been laying the framework for Solazyme’s near-term success by rapidly growing the company without compromising the high standards demanded by Solazyme.
That Jane Marvin would be an exceptionally good fit for Solazyme is obvious given her training and experience. Jane Marvin began her formal education at the University of Sussex, in England. There, Marvin studied economics and gained an understanding of international financial relations. She graduated from the University of Sussex with a Bachelor’s of Science in Economics before returning to the United States. Jane Marvin pursued her graduate work at the University of Michigan Business School. While in Michigan, Marvin discovered she had a real talent for human resources and after she earned her MBA from the University of Michigan Business School, she went to work in the human resources field.
Jane Marvin’s first big position in the tech sector came when she was hired as the Executive Vice President of Human Resources for Covad Communications. In staffing up Covad Communications, Jane Marvin came to the attention of AT&T Wireless! From 2001 until 2005, Jane Marvin served AT&T Wireless as their Executive Vice President of Human Resources, which was no small task as it was during that period that AT&T Wireless was separating from AT&T and preparing to be acquired by Cingular Wireless! Still, her success with keeping AT&T Wireless staffed during the tumultuous transition period left Jane Marvin a hot commodity in the business world. She worked as the Senior Vice President of Human Resources for Ross Stores until 2011, when she decided to utilize her talents as a human resources gunslinger. For a brief period, Jane Marvin operated as an Independent Human Resources Consultant, lending her expertise in staffing, efficiency and corporate transformation to companies that needed that level of professional experience.
But when Solazyme needed an expert fulltime to staff up the company, Jane Marvin left the freelance world behind and signed right up. Now, as Senior Vice President of Human Resources for Solazyme, Jane Marvin is growing the company she hopes will help change the world!
