The development within the tech sector of the all-in-one printer/scanner/fax machine/photocopier has all but killed the standalone photocopier market.  In fact, the companies that clung to their corporate strategy of denial of the trend that all-in-ones would take off rapidly contributed to the demise of those companies.  Xerox, one of the world’s largest photocopier companies, however, made many early strategic decisions that bought it the time needed to refocus, restructure, and rebound both in the marketplace and the stock market.  Xerox has had a rough few years and now, they are counting in part on Luca Maestri to turn the business around.

Luca Maestri is the new Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Xerox Corporation, a role he has had for almost a year and a half.  Maestri is an Italian businessman who was sought by Xerox because he has strong international connections.  Having worked and lived all over the world, Luca Maestri is part of Xerox’s larger plan to rebuild the company and brand all around the world.  With his keep understanding of international finance and currency and his management style geared toward improving the bottom line, Luca Maestri might just be the right person to improve the financial bedrock of the Xerox Corporation.

In 1988, Luca Maestri earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Rome’s Luiss University.  A world-traveler even at that point in his life, he eagerly came to the United States following his studies at Luiss University.  At Boston University, Luca Maestri began his graduate studies.  Maestri graduated from BU with a Master’s of Science in Management in 1991.  Even as he pursued his Master’s degree, Luca Maestri went to work for General Motors.

Luca Maestri worked for General Motors for over twenty years, all around the world.  His flexibility and versatility made him an asset to many divisions within the company and he was sent where the company needed a professional the most.  That meant that one year, Luca Maestri was serving as a Director of Operations Analysis for GM Asia Pacific and another year, he was the Chief Financial Officer for GM Ireland!  In addition to being the executive-in-charge of the Fiat Alliance, Luca Maestri served as Chief Financial Officer, at various points, for General Motors’ operations in Thailand, Brazil, and Europe!

Following a brief stint with Nokia Siemens Networks, as their Chief Financial Officer, Luca Maestri joined Xerox and the hope is that his international experience will lead to a new era for the company whose name was once synonymous with photocopying.
