Happy Birthday From The Internet!

The Internet has a way of getting people to give out their personal information to corporations, which can be problematic for consumers.  In addition to providing manufacturers with an incredible amount of personal information for their own purposes, you may get bombarded with spam as a result of trying to win an online contest or filling out a survey on the Internet.  But, for the cunning, thrifty consumer, the Internet can be a portal to a happy birthday by providing freebies and incentives.

While there are many well-established ways to get freebies for your birthday, like the well-advertised free Grand Slam breakfast at Denny’s simply by showing up with i.d., there are an incredible number of on-line incentives by retailers and manufacturers who want to get your birthday dollars or simply be a part of your special day.  Most every offer requires you to register on the company’s website and print out a coupon.  As a matter of Internet security, you might want to establish a separate e-mail account for the purpose of getting Internet freebies, so your primary e-mail address is not bombarded by offers and spam.  Still, for those looking for freebies or special offers for your birthday, here are some of the neatest that the Internet offers:

Cold Stone Creamery.  The ice cream parlor provides you with a “buy one get one free” coupon for your birthday.  By signing up on their site, you get a printable coupon valid for your birthday for any form of ice cream or ice cream product in their store.  This can be a great way to share your special day with a loved one (maybe they will buy one, so you may get yours free!) and Cold Stone Creamery sends almost no junk e-mail after your register.

IHOP.  A little more complicated than the Denny’s walk in and get a free breakfast offer, the International House Of Pancakes gives you a free breakfast for signing up on their website.  IHOP collects the usual basic information from you and also requests you provide information about your family.  It is important to note that you may skip the step where you put your friends or family on IHOP’s mailing list without losing the free breakfast coupon!

Red Robin. With so many breakfast options, there are remarkably few ways to get a free dinner on your birthday, but Red Robin is one of them.  By giving Red Robin your basic information, you get a coupon for a free gourmet burger sent to your e-mail box!  Like Cold Stone Creamery, Red Robin will not deluge your e-mail box with offers or spam.

There are many other retailers who will mail you coupons if you sign up online or have vague “birthday surprise” offers for putting your name on their e-mail list – like World Market, Starbucks Coffee, Uno’s Chicago Grill, Old Navy, and Payless Shoes.  But for reliable, easy, birthday freebies from the Internet, it is hard to go wrong with Red Robin, IHOP and the Cold Stone Creamery offers!
