Guiding The Tech Sector Through The Law’s Complexities, Jean F. Rankin Is Very Cool!
The tech sector, with its IPOs, patent disputes, and extensive research and development operations, can be a real legal minefield. Most major companies in the tech sector find themselves, at one point or another, needing expert legal advice. The companies that frequently avail themselves of their full legal options for managing conflicts, or who find themselves on the defensive from legal challenges raised by competitors, often retain an executive-level lawyer, the General Counsel. For LSI, the top lawyer for the company is Jean F. Rankin.
Jean F. Rankin serves as the Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of computer hardware manufacturer LSI. Rankin joined LSI in 2007 as part of a merger with Agere Systems. Since the merger, Jean F. Rankin has been responsible for managing the legal affairs of LSI. For LSI, that means Rankin is focused on all intellectual property licensing issues for the company, as well as overseeing the stock administration. Ms. Rankin serves on the Board of Directors of InterDigital, as well.
A graduate, with high distinction, from the University of Virginia, Jean F. Rankin attended the University of Pennsylvania to pursue her law degree. She earned her law degree, with honors, while being elected to the prestigious legal society, the Order of the Coif. So prepared, Rankin applied her astute knowledge of corporate law to the tech sector when she went to work for Lucent Technologies.
At Lucent Technologies, Jean F. Rankin gained an incredible amount of real-world experience on virtually all aspects of tech sector law. She was responsible for the legal support team for Lucent’s entire microelectronics business. With her mastery of that position, Rankin joined the corporate governance and central legal support team for Lucent Technologies. In that role, Ms. Rankin oversaw the mergers and acquisitions the company made, became fluent in securities law, investor relations and public relations, as they pertained to legal issues. Rankin also became fluent in Employee Retirement Income Security Act issues and worked to bring Lucent into compliance with that.
With Lucent collapsing, Jean F. Rankin moved her talents to Agere Systems, where she served as Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary. It was a lateral move for Rankin when she joined LSI following their merger with Agere Systems. Rankin also served on the Board of Directors for Avaya, but now only serves as an Independent Director for InterDigital, in addition to her responsibilities as LSI.
With her wealth of experience, Jean F. Rankin continues to provide a valuable service to LSI.
