Directing The Company That Makes Almost Everything, Jackie Ward Succeeds!
There are so many specialized companies within the tech sector that it is unsurprising that umbrella companies form. Umbrella companies are large corporate entities that usually do not manufacture or sell anything of their own; their sole purpose is usually to manage the many component companies. In other words, an umbrella company is company that owns smaller companies. One of the most intriguing umbrella companies is Sanmina-SCI, a tech company that has interests in medical systems, computer components, plastics manufacturing, clean technology and even defense technology! One of the most intriguing individuals at Sanmina-SCI is Jackie Ward!
Jackie Ward is a Director on the Sanmina-SCI Board of Directors. She has been a Director on the Board since 2001 and accepted a position there only after she retired from directing the entire SCI Systems operation for almost a decade! As one of the most experienced managers in business today, Ward’s expertise is highly sought-after. In addition to serving as a Director at Sanmina-SCI, Jackie Ward is on the Board of Directors of at least five other major corporations.
Jackie Ward’s career began with a solid education that allowed her to get some exceptional early opportunities in the business world. With her roots in Georgia, it was unsurprising that Ward attended Georgia State College for Women and, later, the University of Georgia Extension Center. At those institutions of higher learning, Jackie Ward majored in both psychology and mathematics. Accepted into the prestigious London School of Business, Ward went overseas for her Doctorate work. She earned her Doctor of Law degree at Mercer.
Before founding her own company, Jackie Ward used her extensive knowledge of law, psychology and mathematics at UNIVAC. Universal Automatic Computer was one of the earliest developers of mainframe computers. While Ward worked for UNIVAC, she had several roles that allowed her to show off her many talents. Her skill with mathematics came into play as she worked as a programmer and her law and psychology interests helped her find success in both the marketing and management of the company.
After working for UNIVAC, Jackie Ward pioneered her own computer company, Computer Generation Incorporated. While a woman starting her own computer company might not be major news today, it was a groundbreaking move in 1968! At that time, there were very few women in business – much less founding their own tech companies – and even fewer computer companies. Jackie Ward ran CGI for thirty-two years and her success at transforming the fledgling business into an enduring multinational corporation made her highly sought after by all sorts of businesses in the tech sector.
Now in her seventies, Jackie Ward continues to share her expertise. By passing on her techniques to Sanmina-SCI, Jackie Ward continues to guide the tech sector and shape the future!
