Minuum is a Mobile Keyboard That Gives People Their Screen Space Back

Screen space is precious to many people when using their phones or tablets.  Most of the appeal of mobile devices is their convenience, but it is anything but convenient to have a giant virtual keyboard block your view while trying to input information into an app or website.  The standard QWERTY keyboards on smartphones and tablets are often clunky and infamously lead to countless typos.  The problems were so severe that all mobile keyboards had to start using artificially intelligent grammar and spelling correction systems. These autocorrect systems and imperfect keyboards have caused many to seek help from mobile tech support professionals in the past. It only makes it worse that mobile keyboards take up so much screen space, making it hard to both input information on the keyboard and read information on the screen at the same time.

Cool product Minuum believes it has found a solution to these mobile typing problems with its minimalistic version of a smartphone keyboard.  Rather than depend on an antiquated version of the QWERTY keyboard that people originally developed for typewriters, Minuum shrinks the mobile keyboard down and uses a simpler typing system.  The team at Minuum believe that their radically different approach to mobile typing can give users a much better experience with their smartphones and tablets by giving users back the screen real estate that they have lost to standard virtual keyboards for so long.

Currently, Minuum is available as an app download on the Google Play Store.  Users will have to install the keyboard as their default option once they download it.  Anyone who has trouble with this should find Android support services for help.

The Minuum keyboard appears as a straight line of letters at the bottom of a smartphone or tablet screen.  Minuum based the order of letters on the famous QWERTY keyboard layout to ensure users remained comfortable in the transition.  When using Minuum, people tap the approximate area of their letter on the line.  As someone types this way, the program provides educated guesses of what someone is typing based on the general area and order of a user’s finger taps.  Users select the correct words as they appear.  With this system, Minuum allows people to still type quickly on mobile without sacrificing the ability to see what’s on the screen in front of them.  If the minimalistic approach catches on, this startup could make serious waves in the mobile market in the coming years.
