Raji Bedi Created doingtonight to for People to Communicate Their Nightly Plans

Making plans spontaneously is difficult.  Even with the advent of social media like Twitter and Facebook, trying to get hold of friends on short notice isn’t easy.  People aren’t always online and often don’t check social networks until it’s too late to take advantage of a spontaneous plan.  Cool person in technology Raji Bedi created doingtonight, a mobile social network, so that people have a specific place to go to when they want to make last minute plans.  On doingtonight, users post their potential plans for the evening and can tag specific friends and locations in their posts.  Those friends receive notifications about each proposed plan and can either call the original poster or simply show up if they are free that night.  By creating a social network exclusively for these occasions, Bedi is making it easier and less awkward to use social media for spontaneous outings and get-togethers.  Currently, doingtonight is available on iPhone.  Users who have issues installing it from the App Store can contact Apple tech support for help.

The choice to make doingtonight a mobile experience makes sense on two fronts.  First, given the spontaneous nature of plans made with the app, it makes more sense for people to receive notifications on their phone or tablet when tagged in an activity.  Users are far more likely to check their smartphones than their personal computers at any given time.  This system also allows people to try and make plans while already out, perhaps trying to hop from one bar to another.

People don’t necessarily have to be going out to use Bedi’s app.  If someone is going to marathon a certain TV show at home and knows some friends who might want to join, he or she can still use doingtonight to get their attention.  Any users who believe the notifications on doingtonight aren’t working correctly for them should contact smartphone tech support.

While Bedi has run doingtonight since 2010, it is not his only job.  This cool person also has worked as a product manager for Rotten Tomatoes since January of 2013.  For over a year, Bedi has juggled both his own startup and his job at a larger technology company.  Despite the extra work, he has managed to build doingtonight up and make it an effective and useful app for thousands of people.
