Pheed Attempts to Create an All-in-One Social Media Space
Social media is quickly becoming a bloated market these days. It seems there are a million different social platforms all competing for your attention at any given moment. So how does Pheed, a new mobile-focused social network, intend to stand out from the pack in such a competitive space? According to Chrysta Olson, the company’s Communications Director, Pheed offers an “all-in-one” solution to social networking and media sharing that the company believes will appeal to a large audience. “People are getting overwhelmed managing so many separate accounts,” Olson told Rescuecom, explaining that Pheed intends to put all forms of social media—text, video, music, voice recording, photos, and even live broadcasting—into one online space. The concept is that rather than go through the tedious process of managing several different social media accounts such as Twitter, Instagram, and Youtube on a daily basis, Pheed users will be able to access all forms of media in one convenient space.
Pheed claims to separate itself from its competition with several other distinctive features as well. Olson explained to Rescuecom that Pheed is attempting to brand itself as a social platform for content creators. She went so far as to claim that the mobile social platform is the “ideal toolbox for creatives.” Pheed has instituted several features to make itself more appealing to creative users such as artists and filmmakers. The company has a strict policy that all content and information posted by users is their own, erasing some of the many Internet security and privacy concerns often associated with other social media sites that claim ownership over users’ posts and information. Photographers and artists who post pictures can even add watermarks so others cannot simply steal them off their profile for outside use. By instituting features that protect artists’ work, Pheed aims to make itself a space where creative users will feel safe posting their content online.
Pheed has also set up a paywall feature for content providers who wish to monetize their work. They designed this feature for artists, musicians, and filmmakers who would like to post their content to a pre-installed audience, but don’t want to give away their hard work free. Olson told Rescuecom that they have even developed a way to set up live pay-per-view streams over the app for concerts or special events.
Pheed is available on both iOS and Android devices. Make sure you have mobile support in case the app does not work properly on your phone. Pheed has done much to distinguish itself, but social networking is a competitive market. Only time will tell if their efforts pay off.
