Herd.fm Optimizes Music Sharing for Mobile Devices
With music services so fragmented, listeners often have to inconveniently sort through many options when they want to share music with others. Cool product Herd.fm aims to solve that problem with its mobile app. Herd.fm keeps a database of songs, of which you can add to at any time through your phone’s music library, and lets you send them to your friends through social networking in a streamlined fashion that eliminates worries about different services. Herd.fm lets users share their music with one unified system that lets them message their friends directly through text message or through services like Facebook. Recipients receive immediate access to the music via streaming and can even receive “mini-mixes” of multiple songs if the sender so chooses. Herd.fm integrates directly with Youtube and SoundCloud to create its database of streaming music. This allows for an immediately available massive library of songs when you want to send music to your friends quickly. The app also integrates with Facebook and Twitter for public sharing if you want to recommend music in a more public fashion. This integration is how Herd.fm is attempting to streamline the sharing process and make it as convenient as possible for potential customers. Herd.fm also uses a recommendation engine that provides you with suggestions for listening based on the music you recommend to others.
Herd.fm also has a feature the company calls “Trak Journeys”. Trak Journeys are a geotagging feature that lets users follow their music recommendations geographically. If whomever you sent your song to also sent it to someone else, that will also appear on your Trak Journey. When you share a song publicly on Facebook Twitter, Trak Journey lets you see how far your recommendations spread and how much influence your taste can have.
