iPad – Plain And Simple
Apple’s new device is not the iPad 3, iPad HD, or The New iPad. “iPad” is its whole name, even though this is the third model in what may prove to be a long line of devices. With such a universally-recognized device, it sometimes helps to re-establish brand awareness and market dominance. By calling it simply “iPad,” Apple reminds consumers that they were the first and definitive tablet computer manufacturer. That type of nod to the market power of the iPad could not have been done with a name like third-generation iPad, iPad 3, or iPad HD.
More significant than the name, consumers have been wondering about the hardware and software that will come with the new iPad. The answers are finally here! The iPad will feature:
- Retina Display – Yes, the new iPad has a retina display, which means the screen now has a 2048 x 1536 resolution. There are now 3.1 million pixels squeezed onto the standard iPad 9.7-inch display, far more than the pixels on your high definition television.
- iSight Camera – The new iPad has a 5 megapixel rear-facing camera that will allow users to record video in 1080p, which is HD resolution. The video recording mode has a new feature that automatically stabilizes the video so that your shaky hand does not ruin your video.
- A5X Quad-core Processor – The rumors are true in this respect, the new iPad runs off Apple’s own A5X processor. The extra power from the quad-core processor powers the retina display, runs games, and does not drain the battery. Apple claims that, on 3G service, the new iPad battery will last for 10 hours and 9 hours on 4G.
- 4G LTE – This newest iPad will be the first iPad to come available with 4G LTE capabilities. The 4G LTE service is from either AT&T or Verizon in the US and the users must buy the iPad model based on which carrier they will use. With the 4G LTE service, the iPad can now act as a mobile hotspot for up to five devices.
- Dictation – While Siri is not on the new iPad, users can dictate to their iPad and have it type a message or email for them.
- iPhoto – The new iPhoto app completes the iLife collection (which includes GarageBand and iMovie). The photo-editing app simplifies editing to a simple touch and drag or select and swipe. For only $4.99, iPad users will no longer need an expensive professional editing suite like Photoshop.
The new iPad is thinner, but heavier than the older iPad 2 and is now available. Pricing starts at $499. For those looking for a bargain, Apple has reduced the price of the iPad 2 to $399 and up. Both are available for purchase online.
If you have wanted an iPad, the new iPad represents the best Apple has in tablet computers.
