Don’t Believe Everything You Read

Every new computer comes with at least a free trial of one of the many popular security scan programs. People recognize that security scan programs are important and tend to not take the time to fully read something that appears to be one of them, but which is in fact a scam, because they are afraid of getting a computer virus. By not reading everything that pops up on the screen, many people unknowingly infect their computers with malware and viruses. Many scams pretend to be legitimate security programs by telling you that you are unprotected or have a virus already, in order to gain access to your computer.

The most common of these scams uses a pop-up that pretends to scan your computer for viruses. It will always tell you that there are problems on your computer and it will offer to fix them – for a fee. The people who designed this pop-up are looking to get your credit card information by convincing you that your computer is at risk. If you see one of these, don’t assume it is true. Run a scan with your own security software to make sure, but don’t give these pop-up ads your credit card information.

Sometimes the con artists plan to download malware onto your computer rather than offering to fix the problem you don’t actually have. The window can look very much like a popular legitimate security scan, but it isn’t. If it appears in a browser window, this isn’t a real security scan. When the scan tells you that your computer is infected, it’s not lying this time – because it just infected your computer!

There are plenty of things you can do to prevent security scan malware and viruses from attacking your computer. The very first thing you should do is make sure you have a reputable Internet security program on your computer. For instance, Rescuecom provides its customers with the very reliable Rescuecom Internet Security Suite. It is best to purchase your Internet protection from a long-standing professional company rather than fall prey to a pop-up scam.

If you encounter any suspicious pop-ups or ads that claim you have a virus on your computer, run your scanning program immediately. If you do end up with a virus or malware on your computer, don’t worry. The best idea is to shut off your computer and get help fixing it. Don’t wait because once your computer is infected, it is open to even more damaging viruses and malware. There are computer repair specialists at Rescuecom waiting to help you with your virus removal.
