Apple Opens Up Their iCloud

Cloud services are opening up across the Internet as the idea gains support from many.  In the minds of many, cloud computing is the wave of the future.  The system of cloud services could reduce operating costs such as computer equipment purchases and computer repair for many businesses and public institutions, while allowing for data sharing from any number of places or devices.  In the rush of cloud service startups competing to gain control of the market, Apple announced the first step toward public release of their new iCloud services.

The new iCloud is the latest “sync” product from Macintosh.  Documents, files, and multimedia move to your iCloud instantly.  From there they are movable to any other device you designate.  Taking pictures with your iPhone?  ICloud service is instantly able to move the photo you just took to your iPad at home.  Working on the go with your iPad?  Important documents and data you just saved are safely stored in the iCloud and protected through Internet security methods, accessible from wherever you want.  Even when computer repair issues cripple your computer device, this computer repair problem does not prevent access to your data.

Apple’s step into cloud services seems well thought out.  For users with multiple iDevices, the iCloud seamlessly integrates data storage and mobility.  Yet, consumers are hesitant to jump quickly into the cloud.  Important to the iCloud’s success is Internet security.  Hackers will undoubtedly study the growing array of cloud services and their stores of data.  IDevice owners present inviting targets for cyber criminals.  Unless data stored in cloud services is backed by a strong plan for Internet security, consumers could decide cloud computing can wait.

Consumers must also consider how reliable computer repair will be for this iCloud product.  Who will be responsible for the computer repair needed for the devices?  Where does responsibility lie for document retrieval or other data-based computer repair services?  Will there be any gaps between computer repair services to the computer device itself and the computer repair for the cloud supported services?  Who legally owns the data sent into the cloud?  Will Internet security systems at some point block you from your own data?  Will the Internet security system be sufficient to block unwanted use of your data by other users?

Computer repair issues and Internet security issues could prove to be stumbling blocks to the consumer.  Only time will tell.  Odds are good that this new service will succeed.  Apple is normally right these days.
