No matter how effecting the marketing departments for navigation apps for smartphones are, using your smartphone while driving is just dangerous. No matter how reliable wireless providers insist their networks are, they are not infallible. There is little worse than being lost because you have driven out of your network coverage area and lose your navigation tool! For those who plan ahead or travel with a laptop computer and can pull over for get directions from your computer while driving, there is no more reliable a navigation tool than Microsoft MapPoint 2011! Nokia has slowly been stopping its free-fall. At one point, Nokia absolutely dominated the mobile phone market and the success of the company actually boosted the national economy of Finland significantly. In recent years, though, Nokia had not adequately predicted the meteoric rise of the smartphone and the need to diversify their product line. Under Stephen Elop, Nokia is diversifying and making other strategic decisions designed to keep Nokia alive in the very competitive mobile computing marketplace. But all of Elop’s efforts would be for naught if it were not for the skills and abilities of Jerri DeVard.

Apple’s new device is not the iPad 3, iPad HD, or The New iPad. “iPad” is its whole name, even though this is the third model in what may prove to be a long line of devices. With such a universally-recognized device, it sometimes helps to re-establish brand awareness and market dominance. By calling it simply “iPad,” Apple reminds consumers that they were the first and definitive tablet computer manufacturer. That type of nod to the market power of the iPad could not have been done with a name like third-generation iPad, iPad 3, or iPad HD.

When Meg Whitman was elected by Hewlett-Packard’s Board of Directors to be the new CEO of HP, the story was all about Meg Whitman, not about how a woman was taking the reins of a powerful technology company. The media became uncharacteristically gender-blind with Meg Whitman and that is promising for the future of business and women in the tech sector.
