Getting sick can hurt people’s productivity and work life as well as their general health. Cool product in technology Sickweather is a mobile app that uses social media posts in order to help people see and predict when major outbreaks of illness are going to take place in their area. Sickweather works by checking social media and finding posts that indicate sickness. For example, if someone posts on Twitter or Facebook that he or she is out of work due to illness, that his or her kid has the chicken pox or anything else that is similar, that post registers with Sickweather. Sickweather tracks all the places people are posting about illnesses and provides users with a map that marks regions where the number of posts is high. People look to music critics and album reviews on the Internet to learn about new music frequently. Whether looking up local independent music or a new high profile act, people often turn to professional critics who rate and assess music on many different sites. However, the problem with this is that music critics’ opinions are subjective and using only a few critics’ reviews to assess a band or solo artist is generally unfair to the performer. That’s why cool product in technology Saunter has worked to democratize music criticism by giving the general public an online platform where they can easily share their views on any artist or band. Saunter hosts profile pages for bands and artists from all over the world and visitors can leave reviews of the artists on that page. Reviews can include thoughts on all the artists’ work, single albums or live performances. Users can also leave a rating on each review that they post, where 100 is the top score and zero is the bottom score. Anyone who has difficulty logging on to Saunter in order to view bands’ profiles and review them should contact a tech support provider about his or her Internet connection. Read more »

The convenience of being able to carry thousands of eBooks in one’s pocket has motivated millions of people to make their book collections digital. However, now there’s a company that wants to use technology to give eBooks another advantage over their print counterparts. Cool product in technology Beneath the Ink uses the interactive nature of computer technology to add extra content to the reading experience. When Beneath the Ink enhances an eBook, it adds pieces of content that the company refers to as “Binks”. People activate Binks by clicking on special links while reading an eBook on a smartphone or tablet. Binks include extra, insightful information about particular words, characters and settings. Accessing these insights through Binks adds a “behind-the-scenes” style aspect to the book’s content. The links are optional, so Beneath the Ink doesn’t force people to interrupt their reading unless they have a particular interest in one of them.
