Howard Lerman Founded Confide for People to Leave Ephemeral Messages
As the Internet continues to thrive and social media expands its reach into every aspect and details of our lives, there is a continuing marginalization of people’s desire for privacy and secrecy in their communications. With every aspect of our daily lives, including what we say to our friends and family, constantly monitored by sites like Facebook, it is easy to forget that there was once a time when people could leave messages or communicate with one another without considering public ramifications. One cool person in technology who realizes this change is affecting people and wants to present a solution is Howard Lerman.
Howard Lerman is the current CEO of a tech startup named Confide. Confide produces an iPhone application that allows people to send messages that erase themselves once the recipient reads them. In an age where privacy is continually disappearing, Lerman’s app provides a stark contrast to current trends in the industry. Confide lets people send Mission Impossible-like messages to each other that self-destruct (figuratively speaking) upon reading. If someone has concerns about their privacy or wants to keep a string of messages secret from a third party for some reason, Confide is the perfect solution. Many people have spent time calling online computer support to find ways to erase embarrassing things they’ve sent to others on the Internet. Lerman’s app makes such possibilities a non-issue by actively making sure there is no archive of what users send to each other. This philosophy could certainly have an appeal to anyone who is anxious about the constant documentation of people’s lives via the web.
Currently, Confide is only available on Apple mobile devices. There is no current version of Lerman’s product for Android phones and tablets. Therefore, if someone wants help downloading the app, that person need to contact Apple tech support.
Lerman is a serial entrepreneur who has founded four different companies in his impressive career. After graduating from Duke University in 2002, Lerman founded his first tech startup, Intwine. Since then, he has also founded and acted in executive positions for Daltran Media and Yext. He is still CEO of Yext, which he runs simultaneously with Confide. Lerman’s long record of accomplishment in the tech industry shows just how capable he is of making his ideas successful. There is a solid chance he’ll be able to repeat his success with Confide, given people’s worries about current trends against privacy in our communications.
