Flyinstyle Makes Airport Retail Mobile

Anyone who travels on a regular basis has faced the issue of downtime due to delayed or stopped flights, among other reasons. This can lead to a great deal of boredom and frustration that can sometimes last for several hours. The intent behind the Flyinstyle mobile application is to create new opportunities for travelers to connect with airport merchants in order to find retail, dining and service promotions. This way, stores located in airports can receive the benefit of capturing sales that they might otherwise miss. What it essentially does is turn time typically used uneventfully and unproductively into time better spent for travelers, while presenting the retail industry with new opportunities for promotion and engagement of customers.

According to one of the app’s creators, Flyinstyle will work with all concessions across all categories of retail in order to help companies grow traffic to their stores, websites and apps. This will allow smart airport merchants to reach and actively engage their customers through smartphone promotions in ways that far exceed posters and advertisements from in-flight magazines.

The app exists to help retailers in airports connect with passengers to let them know about deals, promotions, and events in the airport. The app’s developers have stated that Flyinstyle will collect and track airport travelers’ behaviors to help retailers and brands develop more targeted campaigns, which they believe will increase the returns on their promotional activities. In essence, it gives business computer services to companies located in airports by allowing customers access to them in ways that interest these consumers in what a retailer is offering.

Flyinstyle’s creators designed the app after a great deal of study and research, discovering that a large majority of passengers do not enter duty free stores. This suggested that these retailers have a virtually untapped market to work with. They discovered that eight out of ten passengers surveyed would be willing to enter these stores if they knew about promotions from their favorite brands. The app now is one of the latest and largest in airport shopping and dining with the potential to reach millions of customers per year for their partners.

Flyinstyle has long featured smartphone tech support for iOS, with a version for Android well on the way. Perhaps most interesting is the buy-ahead platform that allows a traveler to pre-order an item and pick it up at a connecting gate or location based on their itinerary and availability. There is also the promise of moving to wearable tech, with plans for Google Glass already taking effect.

There are many challenges facing airport retailers. Flyinstyle’s developers have created their app as an effective digital, social and mobile marketing solution while simultaneously providing customers with a better resolution to the dilemma of airport downtime.
