Campus Connectr Keeps Students Engaged So They Stay in College
While universities are centers of education, they are also a business in many ways. Reputation and student enrollment are major pieces of the puzzle when keeping a college successful. However, both of those things drop when a college is unable to retain students from year to year. Whether young people are dropping out of school completely or transferring to other colleges, it always hurts a school significantly. Fewer students coming back means lower enrollment and therefore lower tuition. Low retention rates also hurt a college’s reputation and make it more difficult to recruit new freshmen the following year.
Keeping Kids Enrolled
Now, a new startup is asking college to use technology and social networking to help keep students engaged and returning to school for all four years of their undergraduate education. Cool product Campus Connectr provides colleges with several resources that can help prevent students from feeling unhappy with their lives or disengaged from their university. Campus Connectr provides two products as part of its service to schools. The first is Flock, which is a social network that students interact with in order to keep in touch with classmates and learn what’s happening at school. The second product, named Engage, provides analytical insight into a student body for college administrations. Universities should ensure they have the computer support resources to manage both pieces of software before deciding to use Campus Connectr.
For Students Only
Flock acts as a social network for students that lets them both plan and learn about other events, talk to their friends, and post personal profiles. Part of what made the hyper-successful Facebook a success at first, when it was a college-only social network, was its exclusivity to students in a certain school. The network appealed to students since it was an online space exclusively for them. Flock brings back that exclusivity and also gives universities a direct line of communication to their students.
Learning What They Need
Engage tracks student activity on Flock. The analytics Engage provides allows schools to see what engagement strategies are working and which are failing. They also help schools spot deficiencies that need fixing. For example, if a large amount of the student body complains about issues with the computer lab, administrators know better onsite tech support services are necessary.
Between social engagement and analytics, Campus Connectr wants to help schools improve retention rates by giving them the tools they need to help their student body. This cool startup could be just what many colleges need to keep promising students on their campus.
