Benjamin Sibert Founded Bar and Club Stats to Turn Apple Devices into ID Scanners
Underage drinking is a serious epidemic and many bars have run into trouble due to sophisticated fake identification card schemes. The best way to handle fake IDs is to use an ID scanner, which can read digital signatures attached to specific driver’s licenses and ID cards to determine their legitimacy. However, investing in an expensive and unwieldy ID scanner that is not only very expensive but also requires upkeep from time to time is not something many bar and club owners are enthusiastic about. Cool person in technology Benjamin Sibert founded his company Bar and Club Stats to come up with a solution this problem. Sibert and his team have created a functioning ID scanner for bars and clubs using iPhones, iPods, and iPads. Sibert hopes that with such a device will appeal to club and restaurant owners who want a cleaner, more streamlined solution to checking identification at the door. Each of Sibert’s company’s scanners attach themselves around the outside of their respective iDevices like a case. Any restaurant owner with an unused or broken iPad could easily repurpose their device with one of Sibert’s scanner cases after getting iPad repair.
Sibert’s scanner works with an app that his company also produces. The app itself is free and available on the Apple App Store to anyone. However, it’s generally useless without the scanner that attaches to one of the compatible mobile device. By making his mobile app free, Sibert allows potential customers to check the layout of the app and see what features it includes before investing in the actual scanner. Theoretically, this could establish trust with customers and help convert anyone who is on the fence about the product.
On his company’s website, Sibert states that his scanner and app combination can read identification cards from all fifty states and even from Canadian provinces. The app also stores information from each ID scanned, so not only can the product protect a bar or restaurant from fake identification scams, but it can also provide owners and marketers with a stronger demographics data. It keeps track of the information from each ID card automatically and aggregates it to provide the restaurant with potentially useful data. Anyone who has difficulty accessing the demographic data on their phone should contact iPhone support for help.
Sibert himself graduated from the University of Richmond Law School in 2008. Sibert’s previous education includes degrees from both Tulane University and New York University. Sibert didn’t spend a long time in Law before starting to build his company. He founded Bar and Club Stats in 2011, only three years after getting his law degree.
