Ben Kaufman Founded Quirky to Crowdsource Ideas for New Inventions

Many people have ideas for inventions that they don’t have the time or resources to pursue on their own.  It takes a significant amount of money, free time and access to specific tools and materials in order to bring an invention from pure concept to physical reality.  Cool person in technology Ben Kaufman founded Quirky to help people without the extra time and resources to turn their invention ideas into reality.  Kaufman’s website lets people share their ideas, concepts, and even fully formed plans for new inventions as well as upgrades to items that already exist. These ideas can be for any type of invention, whether it’s a new computer repair tool, kitchen appliance or smartphone accessory.  Kaufman also helps to turn the ideas with the most traction on his website into actual products that make money for their creators.

On Quirky, users make personal profiles to post their ideas online, and then the overall community votes on what ideas are both plausible and potentially good products.  Users vote by “liking” each concept posted on the site or choosing to ignore it.  Periodically, Kaufman and his team of engineers view and analyze the top rated concepts from the Quirky site.  This cool person discusses each idea with his engineers and starts to work on creating the best ones with the resources his company has at its disposal.  Kaufman and his team then work to create the product and sell it, giving cuts to the original posters of each invention idea.  This cool person’s company allows people without resources to make money from their ideas potentially. Anyone who has difficulty accessing the Quirky site should ask online computer support for assistance.

Before founding Quirky, Kaufman was already a successful entrepreneur.  This young inventor founded a company called Mophie that created accessories for iPods.  After the success of Mophie, this cool person worked for several years on building a new company called Kluster, which eventually morphed into the current version of Quirky.  Kaufman has been a maker and inventor for most of his life, and with Quirky, he wants to enable more people to turn their ideas into physical creations.  This young entrepreneur has already found great success early in his career. It will be interesting to see what other ventures he takes on in the future.
