Smarterer CTO Michael Kowalchik Helps Companies Measure the Skills of Their Teams

Technical skills have become an essential aspect of what makes job candidates desirable and what makes employees valuable.  While skills are teachable and hardly the only metric by which a company should measure employees, it is always important for companies to track what immediate value a person has for them.  Cool person in technology Mike Kowalchik founded his startup Smarterer to give companies a method to measure both employees’ and job applicants’ skillsets.  Smarterer creates and provides enterprises with tests that they can use to measure people’s aptitudes in different fields and subject material.  For example, Smarterer tests can be about website coding, Microsoft Office, Google Apps, mobile app development or any other skillset.

Companies can use Kowalchik’s tests to see where employees may be able to improve, and even find out if they aren’t utilizing the complete skillset of an individual.  For example, even if someone works in marketing, if that person scores a 780/800 on a Smarterer test about virus removal, he or she may have skills that are an untapped resource for the business.

Smarterer is not the only company producing employment evaluation tests for business use. However, Kowalchik’s company does do things a bit differently than its competitors.  For example, rather than pull test questions from a single source, Kowalchik and his team crowdsource questions for the Smarterer test engine.  Smarterer receives their test questions from experts in each specific field in which they provide tests.  Kowalchik also allows Smarterer clients to have their own top employees contribute questions.  This feature lets businesses customize tests to fit the needs of a specific organization.

Smarterer adapts its questions to each user’s responses.  Kowalchik built the testing system to avoid static tests and create dynamic exams that provide accurate assessments.  Static tests that repeat the same format for multiple users often lead to people posting answer keys online.  This situation can lead to untrustworthy results.  Kowalchik’s dynamic testing engine does what it can to prevent this by giving each user a unique experience.  Users who experience bugs or glitches with Smarterer tests should find a PC support service to help them.

Kowalchik started his career in technology as a hardware engineer, working for companies like Data General and EMC.  Eventually, Kowalchik founded his first Internet company, Grazr.  Just as Smarterer encourages employees to do, Kowalchik added to his skillset by gaining significant software knowledge to run both Grazr in the past and Smarterer today. This cool person’s previous startup success and ability to adapt indicates good things for Smarterer’s future.
