Sanjay Sathe Founded RiseSmart to Make Outplacement Easier for Everyone

Outplacement for employees after layoffs is never easy for anyone.  It means a period of frustrating uncertainty for the unlucky worker and potential public relations or legal problems for an employer if handled poorly.  The difficulty surrounding the state of the U.S. job market only exacerbates this situation.  Whether someone works in the office computer repair, healthcare, sales or anything else, the difficulty of finding new jobs can seem insurmountable.  Fortunately, cool person in technology Sanjay Sathe doesn’t believe that it has to be that way and he has created a product that helps both companies performing layoffs and laid-off employees during the outplacement process.

The core of RiseSmart is what Sathe and his team call “SmartMatch” search technology.  SmartMatch is a special search program that RiseSmart uses to find the most relevant job postings and networking connections for a jobseeker based on their experience and previous position.  SmartMatch finds not only job listings that are particularly relevant to a laid-off worker, but also job fairs, conferences, and even relevant web content for people in the job transition process. Sathe’s software gives each listing, event, or piece of content a “SmartScore” based on its relevance to a specific employee in order for people to see what opportunities best fit them. Sathe has run RiseSmart for seven years and raised over 15 million dollars in venture capital.  Before founding RiseSmart, Sathe worked as a marketing director and vice president of enterprise data management at Sabre.  He’s also held marketing positions at Lufthansa airlines and Brierley & Partners.  By entering the HR world with RiseSmart, Sathe has gone from selling products to selling people by trying to help get workers new jobs during outplacement. Perhaps he can disrupt the HR world by doing so.
